Trailblazer In Gender Equity and Diversity Award Presentation - Sharon Bowen
While never an official title, Sharon Bowen has been a trailblazer in diversity and inclusion her entire professional career. An alumna of Northwestern University Law School, she worked to establish the African American History and Culture Endowed Scholarship to “foster an inclusive and socially engaged academic community.” In 2014, President Obama appointed Sharon as the first African American Commissioner on the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and last December she became the first Black woman Board Chair of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). For her leadership, which continues to leave a legacy in its wake, and as a role model for all women, particularly women of color, we are honored to recognize her example and present Sharon Bowen with the 2022 WBC Trailblazer in Gender Equity and Diversity Award.
