Andrea Muller

Andrea Muller is a skilled CEO and financial services executive with diverse global experience (US, Europe, Asia) in asset management, credit rating, investment banking, and securities law at large multinational firms, including Principal Financial Group, Fitch Ratings, UBS, and Shearman & Sterling. Andrea spent most of her career outside the US, including fifteen years in Asia, ten years in Europe, as well as eight years in the US. She serves as a board director at Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo & Co (“GMO”), chairs the audit committee and serves on the compensation committee. At Burford Capital Limited (NYSE/LSE), she serves as a board director and on the audit and nominating and governance committees. Andrea is a member of the Digital Directors Network and completed a masterclass on Governing Systematic Cyber Risk.  She sits on the private company steering committee for Women Corporate Directors and advisory boards for Forward Risk and the Georgetown University’s Business Law Scholars program.

 

Andrea was a member of the Operating Committee for Principal Global Investors (Principal Financial Group) from 2010 – 2018. As Global Head of the Institutional Business from 2015 – 2018, she had P&L responsibility overseeing employees across six continents. Previously, Andrea was recruited by Principal Global Investors to be its CEO for Asia, where she developed and executed PGI strategy across Asia/the Middle East, set up rep offices in Beijing and Dubai, and provided asset management expertise to Principal’s joint venture partners:  China Construction Bank and CIMB in ASEAN. 

Prior to Principal, Andrea was the Managing Director, Head of Asia Pacific for Fitch Ratings. She had P&L responsibility for the ratings business in 12 countries (270 employees). Under her leadership, Fitch acquired publicly traded Korea Ratings, created a JV with China Lianhe Credit Rating, restructured the business in Japan and expanded product offering and operations in India.

Andrea began her career as a lawyer with Shearman & Sterling in New York in 1985 and moved to Paris, France in 1989. As a French speaker, she passed the French Bar exam, became a European Partner, and developed expertise in capital markets transactions and joint ventures. This expertise led UBS to hire Andrea in 1997 as Managing Director, Head of Corporate Finance for France. In 2000, she moved to Singapore and served as Managing Director in both the Investment Banking and Asset Management divisions. At UBS Andrea specialized in capital markets transactions and institutional asset management sales.

Andrea received a JD from Georgetown Law Center, a BS degree from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and a Masters in European Union studies from the College of Europe in Belgium
