Janis Hoyt

A seasoned HR leader with more than 30 years of CPG, Healthcare and Retail industry expertise, Janis Hoyt is Chief People Office for The Honest Company.

Founded in 2012, Honest’s mission is “to inspire everyone to love living consciously.” Janis joined Honest in 2017 to help prepare the disruptive CPG start-up with a forward-facing People and Culture Strategy to meet the needs of a growing business.

Prior to Honest, Janis was a Vice President of Human Resources for Blue Shield of California; her expertise in organizational development, executive coaching and talent transformation were instrumental in driving successful people and culture strategies across the BSC enterprise. Hoyt previously held leadership roles at Clorox and Aetna; during her Clorox tenure she held an international HR Leadership role in Latin America and Europe where she drove and integrated a global people strategy and implemented an SAP initiative.

Janis’ leadership strengths include executive compensation, talent selection, executive coach and organizational structure & governance. She has demonstrated a unique ability to coach and develop senior executives and strategically position people and governance strategies as a top priority. As a Human Capital strategist, she played key roles in several business critical initiatives including mergers & acquisitions,
compensation benefit programs creating a people strategy that structures and rewards on business results.These skills were instrumental in preparing a start- up to build and complete the IPO journey.

A member of the Kiowa and Cherokee tribes, Janis honors her heritage by giving back to her community as CEO and founder of the Native American Bear Foundation, an organization whose mission is to inspire and assist Native American students pursuing educational opportunities.

Janis earned a B.A. degree in Sociology from University of California-Berkeley and a Master’s in HR & OD from the University of San Francisco. In 2020 she earned a Certificate of Management for Excellence through Harvard Business School.
